Camp

My union st artworks beating faster when I hear the misfortunate rumbling in the distance. The noise progressively gets louder until the thundering of the engines drowns let out all other noises. Then I see the saucy yellow caravan of buses turn the corner. The drivers kill the engine and the thundery rumble is replaced by quiet mummers of apprehension and the work week has formally begun. Although this is not my first time as a counselor at camp, I am still hesitant as a million what-ifs run through my mind precisely as I walk past the familiar sights my heart stops pounding and my breathing becomes steady once again. distributively week at camp is its own unique experience, the activities ar the same, the cabins, the meals and the trees are constant but it is the group of kids that gives life to the art projects, the campfires and the nature hikes. This experience of constant or routine careen is much like how a tree changes over the prey of a year. From spring and summer to fall and winter individually season or week at camp, is different but not unexpected.
These young kids must take everything their parents taught them and apply it to the real world. Their parents are not there to comb their hair in the morning, tell them to brush their teeth, remind them to say please and convey you and tuck them in at night.



When I am a counselor I am not only a counselor, but a teacher, a role model, a babysitter, a parent and a friend as well. Throughout the week these kids analyze a lot about themselves and come to transact that they are more capable than they ever thought possible. The week is filled with many obstacles and most kids are up for the challenge. For round the challenge is going to bed at night and for others it is accomplishment to compromise but most importantly it is about branching out and making new friends. Making new friends is simply an option. These boys and girls are forced to live with eight other commonwealth whom they have never met before. Camp is a special place.
