Good afternoon Ladies and Gentlemen. Welcome to the 2012 Townsville Cultural Fest. It is my pleasure to be here today to address you all on the relevance of verse in todays society. rhyme is even so very much a valued bound of physical composition that has remained within the Australian culture for many years. It has a right smart of connecting people, despite their nationality, religious beliefs and personal backgrounds. As Samuel Johnson once said, Poetry is the art of uniting pleasure with truth, by calling conception to the help of reason. However, many people will argue that poetry has lost its spark. So, is poetry still as relevant as it once was?
Poetry confirms our thoughts and feelings and helps us make sense of the conception we live in, but besides gives meaning to our existence. How does this unique form of writing validate our thoughts and feelings? Lets examine this idea. Id like you to listen to the lyrics of Ed Sheerans melody, The A Team. (Song plays) Who could comprehend what issues were being dealt with? I must admit, the for the first time time I heard this song; I was in all oblivious to what the real issue was. I thought the song was just a representation of a char essay with everyday intent, but after analysing the lyrics in greater depth, I discovered that the story was much darker.
