My parents had approached very unfamiliar territory regarding telling Daniel about the severity of Raymonds disease. They decided to tell him that Raymond was a very sick young man and would virtually likely be staying in the hospital for many weeks.
Obviously, since they had spent so more than time together, it was natural for Daniel to start asking when he could imbibe Raymond and Raymond was asking for Daniel. Finally, after what seemed like an eternity, Raymonds mother called to ask if we could derive the trip to Philadelphia so the boys could visit. Two days later, we drove to Childrens hospital of Philadelphia. We were going to see Raymond.
We went directly to Raymonds room as soon as we arrived. Surprisingly, Raymond looked wonderful and not at all what I feared. Since arriving at CHOP, Raymond had had to accommodate an IV stand everywhere he went in the hospital. His mother informed us that Raymond had nicknamed the IV stand, Daniel because the boys were unendingly together, too. Daniel and Raymond hugged fiercely and continued on from when they last met. It was such a relief to finally know Raymond was winning his battle with the unstable cancer.
