General endeavor: To inform

Specific Purpose: To inform my listeners about the smoking Mountains

telephone exchange Idea: As of today, the Smoky Mountains ar an important phaeton attraction, but there is a great deal of geography and history that lies behind them.

Body

I. 10,000 years ago, during the Pleistocene ice age, when glaciers dummy up covered the Earth, the Smoky Mountains were already millions of years old.
A. The Smoky Mountains are part of the Appalachian Mountain localize.
1. They are located in Tennessee and North Carolina
2. They border the two states, and then end.
B. The rest of the Appalachian Mountain range continues north into Canada.

II. Elevations and amount of precipitation have a wide range of numbers
A. Elevations range from 875 ft. to 6,643 ft.
1. 25 peaks are over 6,000 ft.
2. Clingmans noggin (6,643 ft.) and Mt. Guyot (6,621 ft.) are the tallest peaks.

These two peaks were named after geologists T.L Clingman and Arnold
Guyot who explored the mountains in the late 1800s.
B. The Smoky Mountains receive anywhere in between 55 to 85 inches of
precipitation per year.

III. The park was found on June 15, 1934.
A. Many areas were already being turned into discipline parks.
1. Many people (especially politicians) supported the idea, but thought it

2. It was created from many private and commercial tracts of land.
3. The mountains were named for the smoke like haze that envelops them.
B. This national park is the most visited park in the U.S.
